I can change the way you think about the word diet!

Nutrition

Nutrition plays a crucial role in attaining your health and fitness goals. We can think of exercise as preparing the body for changes, and nutrition for making those changes take place. For example, if you were looking to lose weight, resistance training would raise your metabolism, coupled this with a controlled calorie deficit and whoever you are, whatever else you are doing, you will lose weight.

If you were looking to gain weight, usually in the desired form of increased muscle mass you would once again perform resistance work. However, to gain significant amounts of muscle mass, you must create a calorie surplus in your diet. Assuming you are getting enough protein in your diet, the majority of the excess calories will aid in muscle growth and will keep fat gains to a minimum.

Fad Diets

It is a shame that the media allows celebrity diets to be printed in a positive light when 90% of such diets can have disastrous effects on the human body. 'No carbs' 'No fats' 'No protein.' Do these diets work? If your goal is to rapidly lose weight and then pile the weight back on at a later date, the answer is yes.

The way to look at 'fad diets' is to think to yourself, 'If I cut out an entire food group from my diet, what effect will it have?' And the answer is simple; it would create a large calorie deficit, resulting in rapid weight loss.

This sounds fine, except for the fact that the human body quickly adapts to its environment. If you give your body 1000 calories a day to survive on, it will soon get used to burning only 1000 calories, so when you stop dieting, and go back to eating 2000 calories a day, the result, unfortunately, is that you put on all the weight you just lost.

So whats the correct way?

The key to attaining the physique of your dreams is to be patient. Rapid weight loss, as explained, is easy, but it is extremely difficult to keep the weight off. Slow, sustainable weight loss,(or gains if that's your aim) is the only way to go if you want to achieve, and keep, the body you deserve.
